The story behind baibusu
バイブス is English vibes, and its route into Japanese is worth knowing: it came through the reggae and hip-hop scenes, where the word was already doing daily work on stage and in the crowd. From there it moved into club culture and party talk, and by the 2010s it had shaken off most of its scene-specific edge.
What survived is the usefulness. バイブスが上がる describes a room, a playlist, a morning, a person, anything that resists precise description. Older speakers may still hear it as slightly loud. Younger ones just use it, the way English does, with no ceremony at all.
