The story behind rimuru
リムる takes the English remove, keeps two syllables, and bolts on the Japanese verb ending る. This is one of the language's most productive machines: ググる for searching, バズる for going viral, ディスる for disrespecting, all built the same way. Once a foreign word gets a る, it can be conjugated, negated and used in the past tense like any native verb.
Socially it sits below blocking and above silence. Nothing is announced, no notification is sent, and yet people find out, partly because there is a small industry of apps devoted to telling them. The polite cover story is フォロー整理, tidying up. Everyone uses it. Almost nobody believes it.
