レスバ resuba
A reply war nobody wins.
What does resuba mean?
レスバトル shortened: two people arguing in public replies until the thread is unreadable. Watching one is entertainment. Being in one costs a night's sleep.
Example
深夜にレスバして朝まで寝られなかった。
Got into a reply war at midnight and couldn't sleep till morning.
Vibe
Who you can say this to, and how it lands.
Be careful This one carries weight. Read the meaning and the story before you say it to anyone.
The story behind resuba
レス from response, バトル from battle, and the compound is a message-board invention that moved onto Twitter intact. What changed with the move was the audience: on a board an argument stayed inside a thread, while on a timeline it acquires spectators, screenshots and people arriving purely to keep it going.
The vocabulary around it is knowingly ridiculous. A レスバ強者 is someone alarmingly good at it, which is not really a compliment, and the standard advice is that the winner is whoever logs off first. Most people who use the word do so while regretting the night before, which is the healthiest possible relationship with it.
