Japanese has sounds for things that make no sound, and this is one of the best: a small, high, closing noise assigned to the chest. It became a household word in the 1980s through 胸キュン, chest-kyun, which magazines and pop lyrics used until everyone had a word for the feeling.
It has stayed useful because it is precise about size. キュン is not love and not even a crush; it is the half-second before either of those becomes an idea. Modern usage runs to キュンとした and キュンです, and when the feeling is too big for the word, people reach for ギュン, the same syllable with two dakuten strokes added and the volume pushed up.
