The story behind tsundere
The word is two mimetic words welded together. ツンツン is the prickly, turned-away attitude; デレデレ is going soft and gooey. Side by side they give you a character who does both, usually in that order, about ten seconds apart. It was coined in Japanese message board culture in the early 2000s, out of arguments about game characters.
By the middle of that decade it was everywhere in anime, and it turned out to travel better than almost any other fandom term. It is now used in English, about real colleagues, by people who have never watched anime at all.
