神ゲー is a mirror built for クソゲー: once players had a word for the bottom, they wanted one for the top. The 神 prefix spread across Japanese internet speech in the 2000s, attaching itself to anything that exceeded expectations, and it landed on games with particular force.
The inflation is real. On streams and review boards 神 now gets handed out several times an hour, so the compliment has softened.
