神ゲー kamigee
A god-tier game.
What does kamigee mean?
The opposite of クソゲー. In slang, 神 gets attached to anything excellent, but on a game it means one you'll still be recommending to people years from now.
Example
今年出た中では、あれが一番の神ゲー。
Of everything released this year, that one is the best game by far.
Vibe
Who you can say this to, and how it lands.
Safe to use Fine in ordinary conversation.
The story behind kamigee
神ゲー is a mirror built for クソゲー: once players had a word for the bottom, they wanted one for the top. The 神 prefix spread across Japanese internet speech in the 2000s, attaching itself to anything that exceeded expectations, and it landed on games with particular force.
The inflation is real. On streams and review boards 神 now gets handed out several times an hour, so the compliment has softened. What still counts is the long-form version: a title you are still pressing on people years later, unprompted, slightly too intensely. That is the one people mean when they slow down and say it properly.
