The story behind moreru
The verb underneath is moru, to heap up, the same word used for piling rice into a bowl. Gyaru culture borrowed it for hair teased skyward and for makeup applied generously, and the logic held: more volume, more effect, more everything.
Photo booths carried it into its current meaning. Once machines started quietly enlarging eyes and smoothing skin, the compliment stopped being about effort and became about outcome, and the potential form took over. Moreru describes a lens, an angle, a filter or a light that flatters you without being asked. Everyone knows the picture is generous. Nobody thinks that makes it a lie.
